Today's thought goes to the biggest crisis in our Country, Sri Lanka. The country that had 2500 years of proud history looks like a beggar now.
We are struggling a lot now, even though we are filled with
natural resources. We are lucky to have sunlight for almost 365 days. But we
are not using Solar power for our Electricity. So, we have a power cut for 3.5
hours for the moment. Earlier it went up to 13 hours. When the sun was smiling
with us, we were cooped up in the darkness.
When there are heavy rains, then water reserves/lakes are
overflowing within two to three days. Then the next result is flood.
If there are no rain for a few weeks, then the required
water supply is not enough to give the power supply. But nobody wanted to find
out the reasons and give solutions. I think if they can remove the soil in the
water reserves/lakes will make a good difference. But who wanted to do or even
think about a solution?
We are waiting for the Rice supplies from other countries
when our paddy fields are idling. There are lots of cancer and kidney patients
in our country due to poisoned fertilizer and other stuff the traders use to
take the benefits even though we have a Fertile soil.
We are importing everything under this open economy
conditions, and people in the top is taking multiple benefits via commissions.
That's why we are facing so many consequences even though we have natural
resources.
Corruption is leading from top to bottom. When the top is going behind the commissions, the middle traders have been making a black market. So, most of the goods don't have a specific price. If you go to a few shops, then you can identify how the prices are floating.
Recently, in a super market, one lady took a packet of milk
powder and kept it in the rack back after seeing the increased price. For the
moment also, most of the grocery items are not affordable for many. So, they
are looking at the grocery shops like they came to do window shopping. Those
are like luxury items.
I'm not telling assumptions. I'm telling the things I have
seen.
Even though we have paid for everything we bought during the
past decades, now all Sri Lankans are owned to debt. Even the conceived babies
are also debtors even though their parents worked hard and earned. There is no
value for the money they earned.
The senior citizens who worked for about 40 years cannot
live peacefully. Today there is no worth for the little pension they are
receiving monthly. Daily wages don't have a worth at all. If they went to work
with a piece of bread earlier, then it is not possible anymore.
When everything is happening like these foolish Parliament
members are not capable to give a solution. Majority don't know there is
crisis, and they don't even take this to discussions in their parliament
speech. Now we are in a big mess with these foolish crowd.
For the moment, a few people died in the queues. One person died from a gunshot. So, these innocent people were seeking their basic needs. They did not struggle to buy luxury items. They wanted to feed their family and kids.
So, I don't know how many lives they want from us to think
about us a bit.
